QUESTION 4- Who would be your audience for your media product

Our film is rated a 15+ so our target audience will be between 16 and 22 years of age. As a group we decided to rate our film a 15, as the film does contain graphic and disturbing scenes. We believed that anyone below the age of 15 would find our film to horrifying, yet our research that was carried out shows the majority of people above the age of 22 don't find horrors appealing.
Teen Horrors are aimed at teenagers from about 15 to early twenties. We followed the conventions of teen horror closely, as all of our characters are over the age of 15. Furthermore, we know that teenagers take the most pleasure in being scared yet still intrigued by the film, and they take up the largest target audience for horror films. Another convention of teen horror is that the teen actors within the film are reminiscent of of their own everyday lives.

I also decided to carry out a short questionaire  to 20 people in the range of our target audience. Of these 20 people 10 were male and 10 were female, yet the age groups varied, but were all in the range of our target audience of 15-22. Below is a copy of the questionnare that I distributed.

After collecting in the completed questionnaires I found common trends between particular age groups and genders, which i found useful in determining the target audience for our film. I found out that depending on the age, depends on what genre they life. i found that between the ages of 12 and 14 they mostly enjoyed comedy's and the boys preferred action adventures and sic fi movies. however between the ages of 15, and no older than 22 it showed that the girls enjoyed romantic comedy's as well as horror movies, yet the boys still enjoyed watching action, thrillers and horrors. Yet over the age of 22 i found that they weren't interested in horror or thriller movies, and once again the girls turned back to romantic comedy, and the boys action.Furthermore i found out that 15-22 year olds enjoyed watching horrors for the thrill and excitement they gained from it.They enjoyed being left in suspense, and the build up of tension that most horrors create. I found this Questionnaire very useful whilst conducting target audience research, because it didn't just highlight the target audience for our film, but also informed me of what creates a goof horror.
