QUESTION 3: What kind of Media institution might distribute your Media project and why?

Personally i thought that the best distributor for our film would be Fox Searchlight. This is based on the fact that Fox Searchlight are sub-division of 20TH Century Fox that specialise in low budget British independent films. They have been the distributors of well known films such as "28 Days Later" and "Slumdog-Millionaire" which are there most well known films. Fox Searchlight specialise in a variety of genres, and rant specific to the genres they chose to distribute. Having distributed a film such as "28 Days Later" is very encouraging for us, considering our film follows a very similar concept and plot as "28 Days Later". I believe that they may be the best distributer for our film because they are a reliable and committed to their films. They would support and promote our film fully, even though promotion may be difficult seeing as we have a ver specific target audience, within a specific age limits.

Whilst conducting my research it became clear that many of the big Teen Horror movies are distributed and produced by large american companies such as e ‘Columba’ and ‘New Line Cinema’. However, it is very unlikely that these large American companies would want to be the distributor of a low budget independent British movie. Considering our film doesn't consist of a large amount of actors or special effects, our film will not be very expensive to produce. The National Lottery funding through the BFI would be our main fund to produce our movie, as they specialise in funding low budget independent British films such as "INHUMANE".

In order to distribute our film, we would have to embark on a distribution campaign. On a low budget we would be able to distribute our film globally by the use of the internet. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, will be very useful without the distribution of our film, as facebook is used by 8 million active users. This would spread the distribution of our film worldwide. By producing a viral distribution of our film will be a representation of our film, as it is about a virus going global, which you are unable to escape once you have been bitten.

We would also need to consider our film firstly being distributed to Cinemas, and then being produced onto DVD and Blue-ray form, which will then be purchasable from shops such as HMV, and online.
